Why Me? Why Now?

Just when you think that things can't get worse, they do.

For the past ten years, the condition of our economy, of our infrastructure, of our environment, and of our position in the world, has steadily deteriorated.

In 2000, the federal government was running a surplus, we were drawing down the debt, and we were at peace around the world.  Today, the government is running record deficits, the national debt has exploded, and we are fighting two wars, with a third threatening.

Brockton Teacher Layoffs

Cuts in State and Federal aid have forced the city of Brockton to lay off 480 of its 1,200 teachers starting in the upcoming school year. The $9.7 million shortfall now jeopardizes the hard work of teachers and students that turned Brockton into a symbol of urban success.

The War in Afghanistan

This post responds to the following Op-Ed article by Cong. Lynch, published in the Boston Globe on Feb. 17, 2010:

The op-ed by Stephen Lynch is a classic example of our bubble-living, professional politicians who appear to have no concept of the conditions under which their constituents are living, and the threats that are building to their families futures.

We Begin at the Beginning

Four years ago, with no money and no organization, I challenged an entrenched incumbent, with millions in his warchest, in the Democratic Primary.  Stephen Lynch had incumbency, money, and demographics on his side.  But he was wrong on the issues and had not been listening to many of his constituents.  By election time I'd put together a good organization and engaged in effective retail politics.  Without serious attention from the media, our campaign attracted over 22,000 votes, about 23% of the turn out.

Train Platform Meet & Greets begin in July

This July, I will be criss-crossing the 9th District in an attempt to meet as many people as I can...on the tracks!

This past week, I kicked off my "On the way to work with Dunk" campaign, meeting voters as they travel the commuter rail to work each morning. Typically, myself and my campaign team will arrive at the 5:45 AM train, and stay at our daily stop until about 8:30 AM or so, gathering signatures and speaking with voters.
